The final cost of building a new home depends on several factors, including site conditions, availability and/or proximity of utility connections, total square footage and chosen home finishes, to name some. For instance, when a drilled well and/or septic system are required, site costs can become harder to anticipate due to ground conditions. And when the materials desired for flooring and fixtures, etc., are high end upgrades, the upgraded choices will be reflected in a higher overall cost of construction. Keeping to the original contract budget for each area of the home, and being mindful of the availability of water and utility connections prior to purchasing land, will go far to eliminate nearly all potential cost overruns as the project unfolds.
